Company Claims:

  1. Recovers files instantly from hard drives, floppy drives and other types of fixed media. If you are a home user or a network administrator, File Recover fills a critical gap in your data protection strategy.
  2. Rapid scan engine - a typical hard drive can be scanned for recoverable files within minutes.
  3. Scan all files and directories on selected hard drives.
  4. Search for a recoverable file using part or all of its file name.
  5. Utilizing a non-destructive, read-only file recovery approach. File Recover will not write or make changes to the section of the drive from which it is recovering data.
  6. Batch file recovery (recovers multiple files in one action).
  7. Works around bad-sector disk areas. Recovers data where other programs fail.
  8. Supports standard IDE/ATA/SCSI hard drives, including drives larger than 8 GB.
  9. Supports hard drives formatted with Windows® FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS file systems.

Armor-IT's Testing Methods:

This program was loaded onto an HP D5200 series system sporting a Q9400 CPU, 6GB DDR2 and an assortment of drives both internal and external.  We subjected it to tests on our 4x1.5TB Raid(unbroken, just deleted files).  Made it chew away at both eSata and USB external drives with known failing physical media and then threw a formatted drive, one with deletions and partial overwrites and one with failing buffer circuitry at it to see not only if it could do what it claimed but just what it could handle.

Results:

To say the least we were impressed.  Although it passed the tests for all claims it made including the 4 drive RAID 5 we deleted some files off of(Doesn't claim to handle RAID but a working raid should be no problem for most data recovery programs) with flying colours it did fall on it's face when thrown into more challenging situations such as overwrites or the failing buffer.

The claims regarding speed were met and exceeded as it cracked out a search of 4.2TB formatted RAID for 6 deleted text files in less than 15 minutes.  Even though it found all the files we reran the test in it's deeper scanning mode just to test the speed and were impressed at it's less than one hour completion.  Really this is more than 1TB scanned per hour, haven't seen anything this fast in a long time.

Pros:

Cheap as Borscht, this is the least expensive program we have ever found that could live up to even moderate claims of ability.
Extremely fast processing, even in it's deeper scanning mode this program runs circles around most in the speed department.
Easily finds any deleted files and does quite well with quick formatted drives as well as restored drives
Free trial allows users to attempt a scan and see what they may be able to recover

Cons:

Short feature list will mean it's only good for certain situations, may be a great asset for a home user but doubtful any pros would have much use for it in our suite of tools.
Unable to deal well with physical failures or overwrites.  Before buying this product be sure to check our FAQ section to help determine if it's the right product to solve your issue.

Overall this is the best value data recovery program I have reviewed, if your needs are simple and are found in the list above, buy it and be thankful it's so inexpensive.  If you don't find your issue in the list or if you've seen our FAQ's and we recommended a more expensive product, there is a reason.  Don't buy this if you have physical or circuit failures or have performed a full format on your device as this is not what it was intended for.
