Review of CBL Pro-V 4 NTFS Data Recovery Software

Synopsis:

We put CBL Pro-V 4, NTFS version through the usual gambit of testing.  Although it seems to have all the usual limitations of software recovery it does have a great set of controls that will allow an experienced technician to work past some minor failures.  Although Pro-V only produced 94% of the data our standard lab software did this is quite good for a program just over $100.  The only drawback we noted in testing was that for anyone other than a well trained technician using anything but the default settings would have been nearly impossible.  This programs is highly recommended for technicians and engineers in the field but not the first choice for D-I-Y recovery first timers.

Armor-IT's Testing Methods:

As always the pros at Armor-IT ran Pro-V 4 through the gammit of drives CHKDSK could fix to ones we knew shouldn't be repairable without physical internal repair in a clean room.  Pro-V 4 did exceptionally well on all the low to mid level cases ranging from 89%-100% as effective as our benchmark program on a variety of recoveries.  Pro-V 4 hit the wall as expected when running into issues like faulty buffers, pre-amps and heads but we never hold that against a software product as they simply aren't able to bypass certain failures.

Pros:

Worked very well and extremely fine controls that can be adjust for every aspect of a recovery.

Cons:

A little pricy and way too complicated for the average user.

How well did CBL's Pro-V 4 deliver on it's Promises?

Dead on, seldom do we see software that delivers exactly what it promises, we're impressed!

Recommend and Rating:

Highly recommended as a utility for field technician or IT manager not for the average user.
